Novi Sad arose on the left bank of the river Danube, in Backa. It spreads across the alluvial terrace and on the old Danube road, at the site of the most suitable approach to the Danube and most convenient crossing from Backa into Srem, where the Danube is only 350 m wide.

    The city is connected with several settlements in the outskirts. It is one of the largest economic and cultural centres in Serbia and Montenegro.

    Novi Sad is the capital of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. It is divided in two municipalities: Novi Sad and Petrovaradin. Together with the outskirts settlements they have 304.519 inhabitants in total. The city is located between 19° 51' of the east longitude and 45° 20' of the north latitude.
   
    The city spreads across 702,7 square kilometres - Novi Sad, Petrovaradin and Sremska Kamenica occupy 129,4 square kilometres and construction terrain 106,2 square kilometres. The municipal centres are the City of Novi Sad with 233.297 inhabitants and Petrovaradin with 13.307 inhabitants.
   
     Bridges that connect the banks of the river Danube are of a special significance for all the cities embracing this powerful river. The bridges in Novi Sad are still under construction.

    Youth hostel was founded in 1895 in Novi Sad, and was built by Anton Tikmajer and Sandor Vulka famous constructor.It is situated in old town center. From 1995 it is proclaimed as Cultural monument. It has 200 pupils from all over Vojvodina living in it during school year. Guests can enjoy in good accommodation and excellent homemade food. Accommodations for all player in 4 and 6 bed bedrooms.

    Interior of Youth hostel is special art and flower gallery with over 2000 art peaces made by students that are living in it. This year Hostel is having big 110th anniversary of it`s being and work.
